LEBIX in Partnership with ISOC-LB Hosts Technical Workshop on the Importance of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs)

The Lebanon Internet Exchange (LEBIX), in partnership with the Internet Society – Lebanon Chapter (ISOC-LB), organized a technical workshop in Beirut, bringing together members of Lebanon’s Internet and digital infrastructure community to discuss the role of Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in strengthening national connectivity, resilience, and digital sovereignty.
The workshop gathered network operators, technical experts, and ecosystem stakeholders identified as potential LEBIX participants, offering a practical and interactive introduction to how IXPs function, the benefits of local traffic exchange, and the criteria for joining a community-based, non-profit IXP platform.
The program featured two international IXP and peering experts, who shared global experience and real-world case studies, followed by an open technical discussion with participants. Topics covered included Internet interconnection models, transit versus peering, route servers, content delivery networks (CDNs), operational best practices, supporting a more robust and sovereign digital ecosystem, and how IXPs evolve beyond infrastructure to become collaborative technical communities.
The session emphasized that successful IXPs are not merely switching platforms, but neutral, trusted spaces where networks exchange traffic, expertise, and operational knowledge, creating long-term value for both the Internet ecosystem and the broader economy.
LEBIX reaffirmed its commitment to operating as an open, neutral, and community-driven exchange, and invited interested stakeholders to engage in the next phase of technical and ecosystem development.
